.
confess to remain perplexed by tomes of fiction with numerous pages, the grief comes over me to take a slow and laborious reading of a text wordy and redundant at the end, exhausted, I would entail the book.
It was the first impression by taking his hands "the sacred sound of Arjiam", consisting of 698 pages well.
also feared, as the Author of a woman, running into a literary form of lavish descriptions of characters, feelings and places, came into conflict (I do not judge a misogynist, it's just a comparison of styles) with my literary ideal, concise and simple, typical male.
are pleased to have been denied all along the front and have read a really good novel, that judge, and not surprisingly, with just one word: smooth.
Every page I last year, has aroused my interest, recognizing the functional to the plot of the story and, while not a "fan" of the fantasy genre, characterization historical novel, consistent with the reality of late medieval Europe and the Mediterranean, I was pleasantly surprised.
Written with an admirable propriety of language, and virtually free of printing errors, "the sacred sound of Arjiam" is a novel that deserves to be read because it fascinates and despite being based on mere imagination of the content that has lead to serious reflections on the real world in which we live.
The eternal struggle between good and evil is the theme of the story, but the thirst for power, amplified to the point where it kills love, affection, friendship and humanity, expertly described by the Author is not very different from that craving which leads to some real characters and present every step and every thing that stands in their design, just to gain power.
As well as the doubts, the uncertainties that afflict those who are destined to fight against evil, capture the essence of of those who today in the real world, trying to counter the failures, abuses, inequality, hoping to find harmony on Earth, which is often evoked in the novel.
Honor, loyalty and sacrifice are themes that now leave indifferent humanity imbued with individualism and voted only to consumerism, which is conceived with the "belly" by delegating to others or even relying on domestic appliances such as televisions, thought and the resulting free will. In the novel, the author proposes us these values \u200b\u200bas essential to doing good.
I will not dwell further in the synthesis of the novel, I'll leave it to readers to take any pleasure in a work truly worthwhile.
only add that in the bottom of the text, the author has included a sort of glossary of characters, places and keywords in the story, very useful to consult while reading.
I want to instead highlight the constant presence in the story of the song.

Interview with the Author
MZ: You can not therefore deny that the song and the sound in general have an important role in your life?
DL: Sound has always and without certainly a central role in my life, accompanying my personal evolution. In fact, at the sound, as music was a source of pleasure emotions. Then, it became the focus of my study and my work, thanks to which I have detailed the technical aspects in relation to the human voice. Finally, approaching the Audio-Psycho-Phonology, I discovered the therapeutic possibilities. In my novel, all these aspects appear to the world of sound along with references to those rites and those religious traditions, those cosmogonic speculations indicate that the sound in the substratum of all phenomena of the universe. The acoustic vibration element, therefore, is also a strictly personal level, the answer to the metaphysical questions about the origin of life.
MZ: As I have just confirmed, in his novel, in harmony with his personal vision, transcendence is represented by the vibration of sacred sound, then an abstract entity, but from the background material, more than spiritual. The presence of Magh then lets assume that the Kingdom of Arjiam hopes are pinned on these actions, I pass the word, wizards, rather than divine intercession. Allow me a very personal question: Do you believe in God? Or rather, what is your relationship with the gods?
DL: In the novel, as in the myths that have inspired us, echoing the primordial sound or vibration creates the world. This means that during the creative process is a materialization of the rays of the primordial sound of sounds that take on a special meaning and represent, as a result, words and phrases contained clear and distinct and, finally, in the course of their concrete, tangible things . The sound animates all things, is the original substance of all things, even where the common man is no longer able to perceive it. The Magh Order dell'Uroburo are people who seek, through knowledge, getting to feel this vibration. I'm not a caste of priests but to the initiated, which can be accessed by personal choice. I would say that the hopes placed in Arjiam are more on the ability to give meaning to the choices you make and knowing how to steer towards a goal (in this case the knowledge of sacred sounds) rather than relying on divine intervention from above like deus ex machina, at least that's my intention. Obviously, this is a fantasy novel is more developed and in-depth look as if it were a test. From what I have said before, we can deduce that I believe in a metaphysical entity, but certainly not a god made in the image and likeness of man. On my relationship with the gods I'll answer with the famous words of Albert Einstein: "There is the Dark? No, the darkness does not exist, only the absence of light. Light we can study, not the darkness. Evil is the result of what happens when man has no love in his heart. " Already in the Gathas, ancient Zoroastrian texts, it says something similar: the human soul is the channel through which the beam passes to illuminate the divine world, yet God reigns on Earth only to the extent that man chooses a free act of his will to transform evil into good, to transform darkness into light.
MZ : Your novel is set in a fantasy realm, the late-medieval character, in which the sacred sound is the entity that gave rise to everything. Although it is a fantasy, told the world that I found lying close to what was the reality of European history, marked by intrigue, by fratricidal conflicts, or directed by the barbarian invasions, to the point of making it almost a kind of historical novel If it were not for the activities of the "magicians" with their magic "Harmony", so ... "anything and just what it seems?
DL: As you rightly guessed, Arjiam story is a transposition of the great historical situations that have characterized our world over the centuries. The type of company is similar to that of the golden age of the republic of Venice or the Italian Lords categorization artisan, merchant and noble families who are competing, more or less openly, the political dominance. The names of the characters have roots in Persian, Mesopotamian, sometimes Etruscan architecture refers to real models as Castel del Monte (Puglia), the Feast of St. Michael (Piedmont), the cloister of Monreale, and the villa at Piazza Armerina (Sicily ), the houses of Pompeii, the library of Fonte Avellana and Gallery Furlo (Marche), the Massi of Matera, churches or rock city of Cappadocia. The colors, descriptions of landscapes and lifestyles are of Mediterranean and Middle East. I chose the Fantasy, although in a very particular perspective, because it allowed me to concentrate on the issues I wanted the most developed: human relationships, the evolution and character growth compared with actual and possible situations, however, or grappling with questions that each of us faces in life the value of love, friendship, loyalty, or are faced with fundamental problems such as the relationship between ethics and science, just here symbolized by the enormous power of magic.
MZ: In the novel I just hit the call to the number eight, which features the architecture of the Castel del Monte, you have just mentioned. That castle has a purpose, neither the defense nor the imperial representative but apparently wants to reproduce the very quintessence of Frederick II of Swabia. As he recorded the symbolism, the occult, the metaphysical extension of your novel?
DL: The symbols of what the specialist is called "Sacred Tradition" have shaped the writing of the novel. I am fond of archeology and Romanesque architecture about which one of the most interesting essays I've read is that of Marius Schneider, 'The stones that sing, "dedicated to the symbols carved in the capitals of some cloisters Catalans. So I decided to entrust the fantastic element in symbols that can be interpreted in different ways. For example, the dragon facing the heroine in one of his tests, it might seem the monster that we are used to meet in every Fantasy saga, at the end of the scene, however, it turns out that the struggle was Fahryon with itself, with the instinctive forces that each of us possesses.
MZ: In the eternal struggle between good and evil, harmony, singing, play a decisive role in his novel, which part may have the reality of a world poised on the brink of self-destruction?
DL: In my novel, I mean not only in reference to the Harmony sound world but also as a quest for balance between emotion, thought and action. It is this inner balance that allows you to know how to listen, then listen and understand, to go towards the Other, the non-self and enter into a relationship with him, therefore, to harmonize with him. This is the role that could have harmony in today's world where you do not listen, do not make the effort to understand the Other, in fact, very often to cover screams the voice trying to assert their views at any cost or not, it grants the media coverage because all that does not pass does not appear on television or in newspapers seems to exist.
MZ: The "bel canto", the opera, is an artistic expression of our unique cultural landscape, but in Italy it is little valued. Perhaps because it is tied to a specific historical moment, the Renaissance, during which write on the walls "Viva Verdi" meant not only appreciate the great teacher, but sing the praises of "Victor Emmanuel King of Italy" and through him to aspire to a national unit which now seems not to interest most anyone. The opera really belongs to the past?
DL: This is a complex question that requires some assumptions. There are bodies all over Italy plays or foundations funded in part by the State, continue to stage Italian opera and opera in general: you can not say that the work is neglected. Rather, it can be said that the public attending the theaters, such as museums, or reading newspapers or books, not as numerous as those providing care to a pop concert or attending a sports stadium. However, this is a problem basic cultural training, yes, unfortunately, very Italian, which should start already in the family, continue in school and be supported by information channels. Keep a low cultural level it means not to give people the means to develop the best of their ability to think for themselves and then make choices without being influenced. As for the famous graffiti in Milan or Venice (curiously the capitals of the regions that today more unification contest) have been exaggerated in their importance in historical perspective romantic post unification. Without this clarification, I do not belong to the opera and unification a past to be buried. The first because it belongs precisely to the cultural patrimony of humanity by denying that they would lose the foundations of being human as such - I remember that, according to the most recent archaeological discoveries, man has built its first 37,000 years ago So well before dell'acciarino flute dating to 32,000 years ago. The music and the appearance of art in general for today's scholars are still an unanswered question because apparently outside the necessity of evolution, however, are here to prove that Man is not just a device that has adapted to life on this planet in purely biological terms. As for unification, the matter does not concern only Italy and I do not bind the answer to the only Italian unification: in fact, regional impulses or centrifuges there have been at different moments in history and not only at European level. The challenge of today's world, almost smothered by globalization, is to capture these special accepting them and allowing them to develop into a supranational body undoubtedly more suited to the historical moment in which we live.
MZ: "The Sound of Arjiam Sacred" was her debut novel. Continuing his new career, flanked to the opera, will remain on the Fantasy or plans to write other novels?
DL: I still working on a project related to the Fantasy, though, according to the opinions of different people, I'd have to leave his very soul of history. I do not know ... maybe it could happen!
Daniela Lojarro In thanking you for your willingness to answer questions and to congratulate her on her novel, The hope of reaping successes both as a writer and as an opera singer.
